Why Weightlifting Is Core to Training at CrossFit Resonate Sep 30, 2026 · @Eden

Why weightlifting, even if you're just starting

If you're considering training with us for the first time, you might assume weightlifting — the Snatch, the Clean & Jerk — is something you work up to once you're "fit enough." At CrossFit Resonate, it's the opposite: we bring it into your training from day one, because it's one of the best tools we have for building a genuinely capable body.

What it actually develops

Weightlifting isn't just about lifting heavy. Done well, it develops strength, speed, power, coordination, balance and flexibility — all in the same movement. Few things in training ask that much of your body at once, and few reward it as directly. Apart from anything else, it's genuinely fun to get good at.

How we coach it differently

Most technical limits in weightlifting aren't strength problems — they're positional ones. We use the Australian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) top-down approach, most people try to go from the floor up which is where it all starts going wrong! For someone new to weightlifting, that means learning the right positions from the start, instead of picking up compensations you'd need to unlearn later.

Coached properly, not guessed at

Our coaching team includes a weightlifting federation accredited coach, so the technical detail — positions, timing, bar path — is refined with real expertise behind it, whether you've never touched a barbell or you've been lifting for years.

How to get started

The way in is the same for everyone: a free, no-pressure No Sweat Intro — a conversation, not a workout — followed by an individualized On-Ramp with group class access from day one. No prior weightlifting experience required.
